Lovin' Fall

(Wine tasting, picnic, and concert at Talon Winery with 2 Adams and Kristi!)

There always seems to be excitement and energy in the air during the fall. School starts, the air becomes crisp, friends re-emerge after summer trips, events around town.... It's still a little too warm right now for my true definition of fall, but despite the hot sun, there's an underlying current of breezes, and cool evenings just around the corner. I get excited about apple picking, pumpkin pies, live music, masala chai, butternut squash soup, knitting, wine tasting with friends, evenings with a sweater and a book....the list could go on. (interesting that most of that list has to do with food!)

This semester I'm taking public health nursing, psych nursing, leadership & management, and my research internship. I'm really excited to be working on the subject of human trafficking on a local level, here in KY through my Public Health clinicals - I'll update more on that issue later. I'm also trying to do more running and yoga, and I've started a "spin" class at the UK gym.

The weekends have been filled harvesting veggies (making tomato sauce, and I will soon make a bunch of butternut squash soup), going on hikes and trail runs with Adam and the doggies, farmer's market, and meeting up with friends and family. I'm really excited to go on a yoga retreat in North Carolina with my mom, Sharon, and other Barefoot Works students. The longer I've been teaching, the more I forget how to be a student, and I'm hoping this retreat will help me become a student again, rather than spending time thinking of teaching ideas and critiquing classes.

Adam finishes his 2 month long surgery rotation at the end of next week. He will be on neurology for about a month after that. I'm getting used to his wacky schedule, but I'm hoping that for his sake, he can get a little break with the next few rotations. He hasn't slept much in the past 2 months, and it's time for him to get 7 hours of sleep/night on a regular basis! Working for 12 hours a day and only sleeping around 3-5 hours a night is not healthy! (especially for healthcare students and professionals who are supposed to be promoting a healthy lifestyle!)

Anyways, I hope everyone has lots of exciting things on their fall "to do" list - let me know if you have any recommendations!
